Puzzle 84 : How many of each?

Now here is a question simple enough to solve.

Solution :

  • Let us say there are x children, y women and z men.
  • y = 2x
  • x = 2z
  • y = 2 (2z) = 4z
  • And x+y+z = 35
  • Substituting each of x,y,z in terms of z, we get
  • 2z + 4z+z = 35
  • 7z = 35
  • z = 5
  • There are 5 men.
  • x = 2z = 10. There are 10 children
  • y = 2x = 20. There are 20 women
  • So in there party, there are 5 men, 20 women and 10 children.
