Puzzle 84 : How many of each?
Now here is a question simple enough to solve.
Solution :
- Let us say there are x children, y women and z men.
- y = 2x
- x = 2z
- y = 2 (2z) = 4z
- And x+y+z = 35
- Substituting each of x,y,z in terms of z, we get
- 2z + 4z+z = 35
- 7z = 35
- z = 5
- There are 5 men.
- x = 2z = 10. There are 10 children
- y = 2x = 20. There are 20 women
- So in there party, there are 5 men, 20 women and 10 children.
